IkerConsulting participates in the Dialogue Workshop: Munitions in the Sea – Insights for the North Sea in Bremerhaven, Germany. On 24 November, practitioners, researchers, and innovators came together in Bremerhaven to address the ongoing challenge of underwater munitions and their impact on ecosystems, communities, and infrastructure.
The workshop was hosted by the German Maritime Museum and organised in cooperation with the Alfred Wegener Institut in the framework of the REMARCO project, co-financed by the Interreg North Sea Region programme. The Dialogue, focused on knowledge transfer from the Baltic Sea to the North Sea, was opened by Dr. Ruth Schilling (German Maritime Museum) and moderated by Dr. Karsten Seidel (IkerConsulting SL) featured:
A screening of the award-winning documentary Baltic UXO, with filmmaker Agne Dovydaityte providing historical and artistic insights
Presentations on the REMARCO project and its efforts to strengthen cross-border cooperation in UXO detection and remediation
Technical insights from Dr. Wolfgang Sichermann (Seascape GmbH) and Dr. Dieter Guldin (SeaTerra GMBH) on surveying, risk management, and innovative technologies
An interactive Q&A exploring lessons learned, geographical differences, political and funding challenges, and strategies for future remediation.
The dialogue fostered knowledge transfer and collaboration, emphasizing safer, more coordinated solutions to protect marine ecosystems, coastal communities, and maritime infrastructure.
The event finalized with a cocktail and a guided tour through the exhibition North Sea Wrecks, Toxic Legacies of the War at the German Maritime Museum.
